From Poverty to Harvard Postdoc

2019-3-8

Joana D’Arc Felix de sousa firmly believes that science is a tool for postive social impact. Raised by a tanner and a housemaid in Franca, Brazil, she went on to earn a PhD in chemistry from the University of Campinas, then did postdoctoral research at Harvard University.

She is now an inventor on 15 patents. Among her inventions is a way to treat pigskin to remove fat and protein to make it less likely to be rejected when used for skin grafts in humans.
Now Felix de sousa is working as a teacher and research supervisor at Professor Carmelino Corrêa Júnior Technical School and her goal is to pass forward her knowledge to her students since “Knowledge is the only thing nobody is able to steal from us.”
